ARMSTRONG TRAVERSE FLUTE 104
In 1931, William Teasdale Armstrong, a highly respected craftsman and CG Conn shop foreman, founded his small flute repair shop in Elkhart, Indiana. Word of his skill and unwavering commitment to quality spread quickly.
In the 1970s, Armstrong developed a "new" flute scale together with Albert Cooper. Prior to this new scale, flute makers would correct the A=435 tuning commonly found on flutes by cutting the end of the head to bring the pitch up to A=440. Armstrong and Cooper collaborated together to create an entirely new flute with improved performance. Changes would include a tapered headstock, alterations to the dimension of the tone holes, and the location of the tone holes. This redesigned flute would become today's Model 102, 103, and 104 flute platforms.
The transverse flute 104
The Armstrong head offers flutists a crisp, playable response in all registers. The offset G key follows the natural contour of the student's hands and makes playing more comfortable. Armstrong's exclusive CNC key cups ensure the pads sit perfectly flat, preventing air leaks. Built in Elkhart, Indiana, the Armstrong 104 flute is built to last and provide an excellent playing experience for students.
